Dr. A and our team at Happy Chompers Pediatric Dentistry are pleased to offer you and your child a solution for their lip or tongue tie. Often called a frenectomy or frenulectomy, these terms are used to describe lip and tongue tie treatment in Katy. Using advanced precision thanks to advanced technology and equipment, Dr. A will quickly release your child’s lip or tongue tie, allowing them to regain necessary oral function for better health. You can trust that when you bring your child to Happy Chompers Pediatric Dentistry, they are being treated by an expert team of professionals. Call us today to schedule an appointment.

The Frenectomy Process

When your child needs a frenectomy, we will release the band of tissue that is connected to their tongue and/or upper lip. This process allows for your child’s lip or tongue to have a full range of motion, improving their eating habits and speech.

Traditional Frenectomy

The traditional way to perform a frenectomy is to use a scalpel and sutures. Although completely safe and effective, there are some drawbacks to this method of treatment. Not only is it known to cause greater discomfort for the patient, but it does not allow the pediatric dentist in Katy to be as precise. Oftentimes, because the patient is an infant (in most cases), it can be much harder to remove as little tissue as possible when they are moving around and upset.

Laser Frenectomy

At Happy Chompers Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. A performs a laser frenectomy using a soft tissue laser. Using a concentrated beam of light, he can quickly release the band of tissue in just one minute. Often viewed as a safer and more accurate alternative to the traditional scalpel and sutures, a soft tissue laser cauterizes the soft tissue, allowing for less bleeding, reduced swelling, and reduced recovery time.

Dr. A will administer anesthesia and/or sedation depending on the age of your child, but the process will leave them feeling no pain whatsoever. With little-to-no heat or vibration emitted from the laser, your child will be more at ease throughout the procedure. In no time at all, your little one will be back home and enjoying a greater range of motion.

Advanced Technology for Precision Care

Dr. A aims to make this procedure as comfortable as possible for your child, which is why he uses the LightScalpel soft tissue laser. Cleared by the FDA to use when performing this type of oral procedure, it is less invasive and reduces the potential for infection. Parents of little ones who undergo frenectomies often claim how their child experiences less discomfort. This is due to the laser’s ability to reduce swelling around the tissues. The LightScalpel laser is also extremely precise when releasing the banded tissue, ensuring all nearby soft tissues remain untouched.

After using this type of laser to perform your child’s frenectomy, you can expect to notice an immediate difference in their ability to eat and/or speak depending on their age.
